The Cochrane review investigated purse‐string skin closure versus linear skin closure in people undergoing stoma reversal. People undergoing stoma-reversal likely have a reduced risk of surgical site infection, when the skin is closed with a purse-string closure, compared with linear skin closure, and people may be more satisfied with the result after purse-string closure.

A Cochrane review assessed the benefits and harms of uncut Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction after distal gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer. Their rigorous analysis of eight RCT’s involving 1167 participants revealed that most critical outcomes may be comparable between the uncut Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction and other methods, but the results are uncertain.

In this publication, the authors conducted a comprehensive Cochrane systematic review with meta-analyses to assess the effects of mesh versus non‐mesh for emergency groin hernia repair. The rigorous analysis of 15 RCTs involving 1241 participants revealed that the evidence is very uncertain regarding the use of mesh in emergency groin hernia surgery.

Updated Cochrane review about fibrin sealants to prevent pancreatic fistula following pancreatic surgery. It included 14 randomised controlled studies covering 1,989 participants. Outcomes may be comparable regardless of using sealant or not.

Cochrane review: Local versus radical surgery for early rectal cancer with or without neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy. At three years, people undergoing local excision had superiority in stool frequency and diarrhea compared with people undergoing radical surgery, but it was based on low‐certainty evidence.

In this publication, the authors conducted a comprehensive Cochrane systematic review with meta-analyses to assess the effects of prehabilitation versus no prehabilitation for participants with colorectal cancer undergoing surgery. The rigorous analysis of 3 RCTs involving 250 participants revealed that prehabilitation may result in an improved functional capacity.
